Onset and the California Energy Commission Sign Agreement, Start Project

On June 7, 2016, the California Energy Commission (CEC) and Onset, Inc. signed a Grant Agreement to conduct applied research and development on the UniGen Smart System, a new approach to integrating large amounts of renewable energy. Funding provided by this grant is $639,000. The California State University at Sacramento (CSUS) is a major subcontractor and collaborator for this project. The California Independent System Operator, which has endorsed this project, will be an active participant as well.

On June 15, 2016 the project was officially launched when Onset, CSUS, and the CEC held a kickoff meeting in Sacramento. For the next three months, the project team will perform a feasibility study entitled “Scheduling and Market Participation of VERs” and conduct a design review of the UniGen Smart System, including preparation of Design Basis and Design Specification documents.
